VPN for Windows: how to install Surok and what it does to the system
The Surok VPN installer for Windows 10 and 11, the service and the adapter, the SmartScreen warning, one-button connection and updates without user involvement.
On Windows a VPN is a bit more involved than on a phone: to wrap all of the computer's traffic into a tunnel you need a network adapter and administrator rights. We've hidden that inside the installer, so for you it comes down to one button. But it helps to understand what happens.
What the installer installs
- The app with the familiar design: servers, plan, devices, friends.
- The Surok VPN service, which runs in the background with administrator rights and brings up the tunnel. Thanks to it, connecting doesn't ask for confirmation every time.
- The Wintun driver by the WireGuard authors, signed by Microsoft. It's a virtual network card the traffic goes through.
One installer serves ordinary computers and Windows on ARM; the right version is picked automatically.
The warning at launch
Windows may show "SmartScreen protected your PC", because the installer isn't yet signed with a publisher certificate. Press "More info" and "Run anyway". Download the file only from surokvpn.com: we don't vouch for copies on other sites.
Connecting
Open Surok from the Start menu or the tray, sign in by email, via Telegram or with a link from your account, press the button. A ring icon appears in the tray with a menu: connect, disconnect, change server.
The app can start with Windows and connect right away: both settings are in the "More" tab.
What the system shows
A SurokVPN adapter appears in network connections and Surok VPN in services. While the tunnel is on, all of the computer's traffic goes through it, except the local network. DNS queries go inside the tunnel too, so the provider doesn't see which sites you open.
Updates
Every few hours the app asks the server about a new version, downloads the installer and asks the service to install it silently. No windows, just a short app restart.
If something's wrong
- The button doesn't react and it says "service not running" at the bottom: run the installer again, it reinstalls the service.
- Connected, but sites won't open: change the server, then check on "What's my IP" whether your traffic goes through Surok.
- Log for support: the "More" tab, the "Log" button. Attach the file to a message in the bot.
