A VPN through a website without installing anything: does it work and is it safe
Online “VPN” sites let you enter an address and open a page without installing anything. How web proxies work, why YouTube doesn't play through them, and why you shouldn't type passwords there.
Quick fix. For a browser VPN install an extension — one click. YouTube only: the Accelerator; everything: Surok's extension.
A "VPN via a website" is a web proxy: it loads the page on its server and shows it to you — one tab only. It's fine for an article, but video barely plays, apps aren't covered, complex sites break, and popular proxies get blocked themselves.
Not safe: your traffic passes through a stranger's server decrypted, so never log into email, banks or social networks or enter card details there, and beware its ads. Better options are compared in VPN via an app, bot, browser or router.
