On 4 December 2025 Roskomnadzor said it had restricted FaceTime and Snapchat; the restrictions had been in force since 10 October 2025. Calls hang on Connecting, connect without sound or video, while iMessage may still work.
To call: turn on a VPN that works in Russia and carries UDP — on both iPhones if both people are in Russia — and use a mobile-data profile on networks with allow-lists (see VPN not working on iPhone).
