VPN not working on iPhone in Russia: causes and fixes for 2026
The VPN on your iPhone hangs on Connecting or is on but nothing loads. The causes — from a blocked protocol to apps removed from the App Store — and what to do.
Quick fix. If your iPhone VPN stopped connecting, its protocol is most likely blocked — switching is easier than fixing. Get Surok in Telegram: 3 days free, no card.
- Blocked protocol. OpenVPN, WireGuard, IKEv2 and the built-in iOS VPN are detected and cut in Russia. Switch to VLESS (Reality or XHTTP) or change the service.
- On, but no traffic. Check our IP page; a Russian address means the tunnel is dead. Change server or country.
- The app vanished from the App Store. In spring 2026 Streisand, V2Box, v2RayTun, Happ and others were removed from the Russian App Store. Installed copies keep working; for a new install you need an Apple ID from another country. Avoid look-alike apps.
- Mobile data with allow-lists. Works on Wi-Fi only? You need a CDN-based profile — see VPN on mobile data.
- iPhone settings. iCloud Private Relay and "Limit IP Address Tracking" conflict with VPNs; remove extra VPN profiles; Low Power Mode can drop the tunnel.
- Stale subscription. Refresh it in the app to get new server addresses.
- Reset. Toggle airplane mode, restart, and as a last resort reset network settings.
