A VPN for your PC in 2026: what works in Russia and what to pick for free
Looking for a VPN for your computer? Which PC VPNs work in Russia in 2026, app vs browser extension, the catch with free VPNs, and how to connect in a couple of minutes.
Quick fix. Surok for Windows and macOS installs in a minute, sign in with Telegram or email, 3 days free. Download or get it via the bot.
App or extension. An app routes the whole computer (browser, Telegram, Discord, games, Steam); an extension covers only the browser — see VPN in the browser.
What works in Russia. OpenVPN, WireGuard and IKEv2 are detected and cut; VLESS (Reality, XHTTP) looks like ordinary HTTPS. Also look for split tunnelling (local sites go direct) and TUN mode (games and apps go through the VPN). See which VPN protocol is best.
Free VPNs get blocked first, share bandwidth among thousands and often monetise your data; a paid service's trial is the better "free". See free VPN.
If it won't connect: add the app to antivirus/firewall exceptions, check the system clock, try another connection profile — see VPN not working over Wi-Fi.
