v2RayTun: setup, errors and what to do when it won't connect
How to add a subscription to v2RayTun on Android and iPhone, where to enable server updates, why connection errors appear and how to fix them in a minute.
v2RayTun is a simple client for a subscription VPN, popular because it asks almost nothing: paste a link, press the button, done. Here is the setup and the three errors people bring to us most often.
Install and subscribe
- Install v2RayTun from Google Play or the App Store.
- In your Surok account tap "Add to v2RayTun" on the phone, or copy the subscription link and paste it via "+" → "Import from clipboard".
- In the list choose a server whose name starts with 🇷🇺 and press connect.
Where to enable auto-update
Open the subscription settings (long-press its name) and enable automatic updates. New servers will then appear on their own. Without it the list can go stale, and a month or two later you get "server not responding".
Error 1: "Could not connect" right away
Most often it is an old server list. Refresh the subscription by hand: pull the list down or tap the refresh arrow. If that fails, delete the subscription and add it again with the same link.
Error 2: connected, but no internet
The chosen node does not pass on your carrier. Switch to another server in the list: Surok has nine, and on mobile networks at least one of "🇷🇺 → 🇪🇺 All Europe" or the backups usually works. On Wi-Fi check that the router does not block non-standard ports.
Error 3: no servers with 🇷🇺 in the list
The subscription was refreshed while another VPN was on, and the server treated you as a foreigner. Turn off every VPN, refresh the subscription, the 🇷🇺 servers come back.
Battery and modes
v2RayTun keeps the VPN tunnel up permanently and asks to be excluded from battery optimisation. Allow it, otherwise Android unloads the app and the VPN drops in the background. iPhone has no such issue.
If nothing helps
Write to the support bot: by your account number we can see whether the subscription was refreshed and which nodes you were given, and it usually takes a couple of messages. And if you would rather not deal with settings at all, Surok has its own app with everything behind one button.
